Partnership Activities for 2009-10

Understanding Labour Market Information Resources in Hamilton  - Community Access

Building on 2008-09 project activities, HTAB will explore the feasibility of creating a readily accessible LMI hub for the community.  HTAB will work to identify the most appropriate way to make our LMI resources (articles, reports, Second Career profiles, Workforce Focus) and the latest census information and indicator updates available to the community.  A list of local labour market information sources will be documented and reviewed at a tri-regional meeting on March 3, 2010. 

Key partners will include: City of Hamilton, Economic Development and the Social Planning & Research Council.

Promising Sectors, Occupation and Skills Analysis for Hamilton

Building on the Labour Market Indicators, HTAB will research the Canadian Business Pattern and 2006 Census data to determine the top ten sectors growing in our community.  A comprehensive profile of each sector, including sample employers, an occupational analysis and skills requirements will be developed.  This information will be published as a full report, as well as a user-friendly guide for job seekers in Hamilton in early 2010. 

Key partners will include: Local employment service providers.

Educating Employers About Youth Talent, Part 2

Following up on the work completed in 2008-09, HTAB will follow up with employers to determine their expectations and needs surrounding youth talent.  The mismatch between youth assessments of their skills and employer assessment of these same skills will be investigated.  Employer focus groups will take place in early 2010 to gather insights from the employer perspective. 

Key partners include: the Youth Project Advisory members (convened in 2008-09).

Laid-off Workers - Strategy Development

This project will bring together community agency leads and others who support laid-off workers in our community to consider the development of a strategy that supports these workers.  For those being laid-off from small to medium sized companies there may be a lack of adjustment services available.  This project will bring key stakeholders to the table, examine the specialized supports required by laid off workers and develop a strategy that ensures that laid-off workers receive appropriate service and support in a timely manner.  A website and communications strategy is under development. 

Key partners include: Steelworker Action Centre, MTCU, Service Canada, City of Hamilton - Community Services, VPI, media partners, and others as identified in consultation.

Working Together: Collaborative, Planning and other Initiatives in Hamilton

There are a wide range of collaboratives and other planning initiatives underway in Hamilton working to address and strengthen Hamilton's capacity to provide quality human services.  This project developed a summary report that describes the partners and nature and/or framework of these initiatives and plans.  HTAB hosted a facilitated community networking meeting on June 26, 2009 that invited leads from each of these initiatives to share information on their work and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Key partners include: City of Hamilton- Human Services Planning Initiative (co-lead), City of Hamilton, Economic Development.
